Goals
Seniors Housing Society of Alberta (SHSA) is a not for profit organization representing Alberta Based Senior Housing Operators:

  • Provide help to members in delivering supportive housing to their senior residents;
  • Provide a forum to build relationships between members;
  • Explore innovative approaches to housing and care
  • Presnt a collective voice on critical matters to influence government policy.

Advocacy
SHSA plays a vital role in advocating on behalf of its members in areas such as:

  • Active involvement in the Continuing Care Collaborative Committee, and the Continuing Care Strategy Implementation Task Force;
  • Liaison with government on behalf of operators;
  • Issues presenting challenges such as property tax, Home Care funding; Accommodation and Continuing Care Standards and changes to the Building and Fire Codes;
  • Funding for adequate and standardized training for Health Care Aides;
  • Strategies for workforce retention; and
  • Supportive Living Design Guidelines

Meetings
The members meet five times a year. These meetings are informal in nature and feature:

  • An invited guest speaker who presents on current and emerging issues facing supportive living operators
  • Round table member updates
  • Networking
